The S/V Hardrock Sinks

The S/V Hardrock Sinks

On June 11 after months of preparation the East Carolina Artificial Reef Association sunk the S/V Hardrock as another artificial reef on the reef site also home to the Indra, the Nepomuk and a Barge. ECARA would like to thank the tireless efforts of Terry Leonard & Dean Anderson in this project and LeRoy Craytor, Steve Myers, Brent Greenberg, Wes Cooper, Calvin & Teresa Shaw of Aquatic Pleasures.

The vessel is off of the starboard stern area of the Indra between the broken off superstructure and the S/V Nepomuk. Thanks to TowBoat US and owner Lee Sykes as they were a tremendous help by towing the vessel to the reef site. And thanks for the cooperation of the US Coast Guard in addition to the NC Division of Marine Fisheries Reef Program in allowing us to sink this vessel. Thanks to the crew of the Outrageous V the day of the sinking, Capt Terry Leonard, Debby Boyce, Buster Thompson, David Osborne, Sarah Linden, Sandra Edwards and to Dean Anderson & Bobby Rawls who road the sailboat out.

ECARA has another Ferro cement sail boat that we hope to sink this fall. If you have or know someone that has a metal or Ferro cement boat that they would like to donate to a great cause give us a call.
